Clayton’s Cup

The Clayton’s Spearfishing Cup

What is Clayton’s? A non-alcoholic drink that is “the drink you have when you’re not having a drink” became part of Oz vernacular.  Hence with Corona and social distancing running spearfishing meetings and organised dives is not opportune so the USFA would like to run an event that is not quite the event we have been wishing to organise for some time.

The idea of the Clayton’s is to spear one of each of the 10 species on the list (you’re given the species list and minimum sizes when you sign on, make sure you pack your cray gloves, wink wink);  measure each specie you catch on a brag mate or similar measuring tool; take a photo showing the length of each specie; submit the photos with the USFA code you are given on the day clearly in the photo with each of your catch; if your any of your catch is the longest of that specie you win a spearfishing gift voucher; the spearo with  longest overall length wins too and is the Clayton’s winner on that weekend.

If the Clayton’s receives good vibes, we will introduce a regular fixture of events, mixing up the species and size limits as per season. Who knows the name may change to be less tacky too…?

This is a fun, easy challenging day to take part in of, – go diving, spear the fish listed, measure them yourself, send in the pics of each fish and you are a chance to get a prize. there are some guidelines that need to be adhered to, so we have a smooth-running event to occur.

19th and 20th September

Information – rules and, stuff…

This is ethical stuff and it comes down to your own integrity, like it was mentioned above – this is a fun event to be a part of, don’t complicate things with doubt, please if you are unsure just ask one of the organisers.

  • You are allowed to enter only one of each specie listed over the weekend.
  • Present only fish that make the minimum size criteria of the Clayton’s
  • Fish to be placed down on a brag mat/ruler/measuring tape
  • Photos must clearly show the whole specie and length of fish presented otherwise will not be recognised by officials.
  • Measurement is rounded down to the nearest centimetre
  • Fish not submitted presented by prescribed time, Sunday 6pm, will not be recognised
  • Fish landed by the one diver is to be weighed in by that diver only, no one else shall weigh in another diver’s fish for themselves
  • Fish to capture will be announced the Friday evening prior
  • Once you sign off to dive you will be sent a code that must be seen in each photo you submit.
  • Float and Alpha flag must be used by the diver
  • Boundaries are between Swansea to Shellharbour.
  • Dive only in the permitted areas as per NSW Fisheries regulations.
  • Any issues that may arise the organisers will revert to the Sydney Zone Spearfishing event rules for guidance.
  • Prizes currently are for longest of each listed species, and, for the total centimetres overall for the weekend event.
  • The “OPEN” category means everyone, at the moment there is no Junior or Ladies division.
